Each October, the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery sponsors the Alabama National Fair at Garrett Coliseum. While this generates great fun and entertainment for well over 100,000 visitors to the Fair, it also generates charitable income for many area agencies.
Tuesday, March 10, 2020, the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery Foundation awarded more than $225,000 in grants. These grants are a direct result of the Alabama National Fair, The Pete Peterson Trust and the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery Foundation. This year 22 River Region non-profit recipients serving youth causes in the River Region will benefit from the grants: American Legion Department of Alabama Youth Baseball, Bridge Builders Alabama, Common Ground Montgomery, Easter Seals/Camp ASCCA, Fishers Farm, Friendship Mission, Gathering of Eagles Foundation, Homeview Holistic Community Family and Health Center, Kid One Transport, Liberty Learning Foundation, Magic Moments, MANE, Mercy House, Montgomery City-County Public Library, Montgomery Education Foundation, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery STEP Foundation, Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, Rebuilding Together Central Alabama, Salvation Army Montgomery, Service Dogs Alabama, YMCA of Greater Montgomery- Grandview.
Since 1955, the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery and its Foundation have donated almost $9 million to charity.
The Kiwanis Club of Montgomery is the third largest Kiwanis Club in the world, and the Alabama National Fair is the organization’s annual fundraiser.
