Bear Exploration Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology is a Kindergarten through 5th grade magnet school within the Montgomery Public School System. In March 2019, the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery awarded them a $15,000 grant to be used towards the construction of a new playground, which was completed in late July 2019.

The old playground was over 20 years old and Bear Exploration Center, being a magnet school, does not gain any money beyond state funding. The Parent Teacher Association is very active and raises money for extra needs the school may have, such as technology, supplies, and minor repairs. With the playground beginning to deteriorate, it needed to be replaced.

“The children were super excited.” said Edris Davis, of the Bear Exploration Center PTA. “We got the new playground completed right before school started in August and everyone loves it. It also benefits our neighborhood, because parents bring their children here on the weekends to play. A few of the Kiwanis Club members came out for the playground dedication and we are so appreciative of all they have done.”
